Recreation Therapist

Job Summary

Universal Health Services is seeking a Recreation Therapist to join our team at River Park Hospital. As a Recreation Therapist, you will work with acute and chronically mentally ill patients within an inpatient psychiatric setting to assess their leisure and recreational habits and provide therapeutic interventions to improve their daily functioning.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and implement therapeutic recreation and psycho-education services for all patients, including physical fitness, creative expression opportunities, leisure, and general psycho-education learning activities.
Administer therapeutic recreational assessments and document services and patient response in medical records.
Provide progress reports for treatment team meetings and contribute to the development of treatment plans.
Maintain age-appropriate recreation/education supplies and equipment, including purchasing supplies and materials for patient reinforcement/reward programs, holiday celebrations, and monthly unit birthday celebrations.
Attend and participate in patient treatment team meetings as part of the interdisciplinary team as directed.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in a Health Services related field, Recreation and Leisure preferred.
CTRS certification preferred but not required.
Experience may be substituted for minimum requirements as follows: A minor in a Health Services related field and a minimum of one year working in the mental health field. For those candidates with no Bachelor's degree, five years of experience working specifically as a Recreation Therapist or Mental Health Technician may be substituted. Internal candidates can substitute a MHT II with a Bachelor's Degree.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of variety of recreational activities.
Ability to work professionally and effectively with staff, medical staff, patients, family members, administration, and others.
Ability to complete documentation that is consistent with policy and good clinical practice.
