Position Overview:
Fairview Health Services is seeking a Patient Care Technician (also known as a Unit Support Specialist) to join our dedicated team. This role is part-time, with a commitment of .7 FTE (56 hours per two weeks), and involves 8-hour Day/Evening shifts from Monday to Friday, with flexible start times between 0515 am and 1100 am. There are no weekend or on-call requirements.

Role Responsibilities:
As a Patient Care Technician, you will:
- Uphold the core principles of our patient care model to support the vision of Fairview Nursing.
- Assist in the Nursing Process to promote outcome-focused patient care.
- Engage in holistic nursing practices aligned with established standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, reinforcing patient education as directed.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by understanding the needs of all stakeholders.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health records in accordance with departmental policies.
- Stay informed about and comply with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
- Participate in initiatives aimed at improving patient care and operational efficiency.
- Assist with EKGs and perform unit coordinator duties as needed.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess one of the following:
- At least six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, having completed at least one semester of clinical rotation.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
Additional Notes:
Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post-hire to become active on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry. Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required. Participants in the Ontrack program must obtain BLS certification upon completion.
