Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are Generac Power Systems, a leading energy technology company committed to powering a smarter world. Our Clean Energy team is seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in Waukesha, WI.

About the Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading design and development activities of new products as well as design improvements to various products in Generac's Clean Energy business group. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to create specifications and technical documentation, perform engineering analysis, and evaluate the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create specifications and technical documentation for new products and design improvements
  • Perform engineering analysis of major systems and components to ensure proper function and validate them for implementation
  • Lead design related activities generated by warranty assessments, development tests, sourcing, and manufacturing driven needs
  • Responsible for the completion and release of engineering documentation, including CAD drawings and assembly instructions for complex machinery and assembly
  • Conduct and document calculations and analyses, including tolerance analysis, static and dynamic structural analysis, and cost optimization studies
  • Collaborate closely with strategic global sourcing to create statement of requirements (SOR) and work with vendors to ensure specification of components is met
  • Creates and executes product development plans, including schedule, product cost, and meeting design inputs
  • Works closely with test resources and facilities to execute test plans
  • Mentors and coordinates other less experienced members of the team as necessary
  • Travels to other Generac facilities and vendor sites as necessary
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with GD&T and statistical stack up of tolerances
  • Experience with machine design
  • Background in Electrical enclosure design and agency certification
  • Background in renewable energy systems
  • Integration experience with Energy storage systems and/or power electronics
  • Good understanding of residential construction and electrical wiring
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing techniques for sheet metal and plastic components
  • Able to solve complex engineering problems
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Great ability to work in a dynamic environment and strong tolerance for ambiguity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
