Job Title: Supervisory Mathematical Statistician

Join the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a Supervisory Mathematical Statistician and contribute to the development of statistical methods and models to support the agency's mission.

About the Job

The Research, Applied Analytics and Statistics (RAAS) Division is responsible for providing statistical and analytical support to the IRS. As a Supervisory Mathematical Statistician, you will lead a team of statisticians and analysts in developing and implementing statistical methods and models to support the agency's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and assign work to subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for outstanding performance recognition and/or disciplinary action.
  • Give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointment, promotion, or reassignment.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from employees, refer group grievances, and/or more serious unresolved complaints as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, and recommend other actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
  • Initiate ways to improve production, work processes, and/or to increase the quality of the work directed.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national and provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Federal experience is not required, but you must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level within the pay band or GS grade in the normal line of progression in the Federal service.
  • Experience must demonstrate management/leadership experience, such as applying management techniques, methods, theories, principles, or labor relations concepts for the accomplishment of all program objectives with combined technical and administrative oversight.
  • Experience must also demonstrate the ability to apply regulations, other official guidance, and principles, including the latest procedures and techniques sufficient to oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the technical aspects of programs specific to the position being filled.
  • Experience must demonstrate the ability to apply communicative techniques to effectively and diplomatically interact with internal and external customers.

Day Shift - Start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours, or telework may be available.
