Histotechnician - Tissue Processing Specialist

Job Summary:

Staff Icons is seeking a skilled Histotechnician to join our team. As a Histotechnician, you will be responsible for processing and staining tissues for diagnostic purposes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize a Laboratory Information System (LIS) to manage laboratory data.
  • Properly label specimens and maintain a clean working environment.
  • Embed formalin-fixed tissues and perform microtomy according to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) protocols.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of instruments and document findings.
  • Prepare reagents and maintain a working inventory required for histological processes.
  • Knowledgeable of laboratory instrumentation use and perform complex procedures for processing and staining tissues.
  • Verify slide stain quality and ensure timely distribution to pathologists.
  • Perform equipment quality control and preventive maintenance.
  • Capable of grossing small biopsies and perform basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Support Histology Management by communicating supply needs and documenting receipt of supplies.
  • Practice good documentation practices and maintain filing systems.
  • Enforce proper chemical hygiene practices and perform chemical hazardous waste disposal.
  • Assist in duties as deemed necessary by the Histology Supervisor, Pathology Manager, or Medical Director.
  • Comply with quality control policies and SOPs to ensure laboratory operations are performed in accordance with accepted standards and applicable laws.

Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university and 3+ years of experience, completion of an accredited Histology Program, or an equivalent combination of education and 5 years' experience.
  • HT(ASCP) certification is required, and HTL (ASCP) certification is preferred.
  • Good computer skills, including LIS, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
