The Phlebotomist II plays a vital role in our laboratory operations, performing both adult and pediatric blood draws. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including the preparation and stabilization of patient specimens for transport to the main laboratory or through our pneumatic tube system. Accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and demographic confirmation are essential components of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts pre-analytical specimen receipt, processing, and verification of identification.
- Utilizes centrifuge and pneumatic tube systems, manages office equipment, and inputs data into the laboratory information system.
- Facilitates training for new staff members.
- Performs phlebotomy on inpatient units and provides support to emergency department staff, including outpatient draws during off-hours.
- Oversees supply ordering and inventory management for the work unit.
Essential Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of a vocational phlebotomy program or a minimum of one year of relevant experience is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are advantageous.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills are preferred.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and adapt to fluctuating workloads is essential.
Physical Requirements:
- May involve light lifting (up to 10 lbs.) and carrying of supplies.
- Repetitive hand use (e.g., keyboarding), as well as prolonged periods of sitting, walking, or standing, may be necessary.
