Department Overview:

The Associated Students (AS) of the University of California, Santa Barbara is a non-profit organization dedicated to representing student interests and enhancing student life through various programs and services.

Our mission is to empower students by providing leadership, employment, cultural, and growth opportunities that serve the campus community.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Community Financial Fund Management: Develops and executes procedures for the Community Financial Fund.

    Facilitates financial literacy training, coordinates grants, oversees loans, and acts as a liaison with the Financial Aid office while advising students on the Community Financial Fund Committee.

  • Business and Finance Committee Support: Provides guidance to Business and Finance Committee members, assisting in their advisory roles to A.S. organizations and student groups.

    Supports the Business and Finance Committee chair in training students to conduct workshops on fund expenditure, financial policies, and administrative procedures.

  • Workshops and Training: Conducts workshops for A.S. staff, boards, committees, and student organizations, covering A.S. Financial Policies and University Policies and Procedures.
  • Basic Needs Resource Coordination: Connects students with essential resources on- and off-campus, serving as a liaison to AS and community resources.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience in bookkeeping or accounting.

Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Completion of a criminal history background check is required.
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings.
  • UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
  • 50% Community Financial Fund: Independently establishes processes for the Community Fund, including loan processing and documentation. Develops curriculum and presentations for financial literacy workshops and provides individual counseling on budgeting and financial resources.
  • 30% Business and Finance Committee: Acts as a secondary advisor for the A.S. Business and Finance Committee, guiding budget hearings and fund allocation processes while ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • 20% Basic Needs Liaison: Serves as a liaison for students seeking services, maintaining records of AS funds distributed for basic needs and developing relationships with stakeholders critical to program success.
