Job Summary

The Ellison Institute of Technology is seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join our Convergent Systems Research Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and validating automated instrumentation and prototypes, as well as the associated data analysis processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop modular, reusable test and automation software in Python and similar languages for manufacturing and engineering design verification
  • Write automation software to control hardware, test equipment, instrumentation, and production documentation systems
  • Develop software that allows for test execution across multiple environments: hardware-in-the-loop (HITL, HIL) and virtualized hardware simulations
  • Develop, design, and construct custom automation solutions to biomedical engineering challenges using a combination of embedded electronics, photonics, and innovative hardware
  • Prepare documentation following Good Laboratory Practices, including supporting versioning and preparing detailed technical drawings, and write SOPs for operation
  • Define and implement project plans and manage milestones to assure reliable systems are delivered
  • Invent tools that enable more frequent and reliable software deployment, test execution, and data analysis as part of a continuous integration and release system
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and develop innovative solutions
  • Conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot and resolve automation issues
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field of engineering or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in automation engineering, with a strong background in data acquisition hardware and software, control feedback loop design, and numerical analysis techniques
  • Experience with a range of digital and analog interfaces, including GPIB, USB, VISA, TCP/IP, VLAN, CAN bus, SPI, I2C, Modbus, and analog-to-digital conversion
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting, debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a field of engineering or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in automation engineering, with a strong background in sensor networks, LabVIEW software, and configuration management and version control software
  • Experience with finite element models and/or technical schematics, such as Unigraphics NX, FEMAP, and ANSYS
Salary:

$96,186 - $121,517
