Requirements
  • Age Restriction: Minimum age of 16 years old for Entry Level positions (Lifeguards & Swim Instructors), Minimum age of 18 years old for Supervisory positions (Head Lifeguard & Head Swim Instructor)
  • Testing: Be able to pass a CDYMCA swim test, administered by the Aquatics Director or designated individual
  • Certifications: Valid CPR, AED, and First Aid
  • Skills: Excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Job DescriptionsHead Swim Instructor

Leads swim class and supervises all other swim instructors. Required qualifications include a minimum age of 18 years old, HS/GED with some college preferred, minimum two years of experience as a swim instructor and lifeguard, and minimum one year in a supervisory role.

Head Lifeguard

Ensures pool safety and monitors all other lifeguards. Required qualifications include a minimum age of 18 years old, HS/GED with some college preferred, minimum two years of experience as a swim instructor and lifeguard, and minimum one year in a supervisory role.

Swim Instructor

Delivers swim lessons. Required qualifications include NYS Working Papers (Under 18 yrs old), and aquatic certifications, and basic knowledge of computers.

Lifeguard

Monitors pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Required qualifications include NYS Working Papers (Under 18 yrs old), and aquatic certifications, and required certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, Lifeguard and emergency oxygen administration.
