Job Description

Join the Middlebury College Summer School of French as a Bilingual Assistant in French. This temporary position may be available during the summer 2025 session, located on the Middlebury College campus in Vermont. Our unique 7-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. As a Bilingual Assistant, you will be responsible for organizing and implementing multiple facets of the non-academic operations of the School, providing language, co-curricular, and residential support to students, and working alongside the School assistant directors and the director in the management of School operations. In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided. Full-time on-campus residence is required for the duration of the summer program. The position is for summer 2025 only.

Responsibilities
  • Program ambassador: Serve as the primary in-language point of contact for students and faculty, knowledgeable about the program as well as campus resources and policies.
  • Student life: Represent the School administration in the dorms and social spaces, provide guidance and non-academic support, monitor adherence to the Language Pledge, and organize social activities in the dorms.
  • Co-curricular activities and events: Facilitate the School's cultural program, liaise with campus offices, design and lead regular co-curricular activities, and assist faculty, guests, and the director at/with lectures, performances, and other events.
  • Pedagogical support: Engage in conversation practice outside of class, give a programmatically relevant presentation on a topic of personal expertise, and provide classroom technical support as requested by faculty.
  • Technology: Provide general IT support for faculty, guests, and students, manage circulation of School technology, equipment, and film archive, and provide technical support at events.
  • Communications: Communicate with students and faculty on a variety of platforms, design and edit web content on in-language sites, develop media content and disseminate publications, and translate School and other official Middlebury documents.
  • School office: Administer the School office, serve as the French language point of contact for students, faculty, and guests needing drop-in assistance, and schedule events and activities.
