Position Overview:

We are in search of a seasoned Web Software Technical Project Manager to spearhead the design, development, and deployment of intricate software systems and subsystems, with a primary focus on web applications and digital ecosystems. This position demands a profound comprehension of software architecture, data science, and artificial intelligence, paired with robust project management capabilities to guarantee successful project execution. The Project Manager will work in close collaboration with IT Project Managers, Application Engineers, and Programmers to produce high-quality software solutions tailored to project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the design and architecture of software systems and subsystems, ensuring alignment with reuse and domain analysis strategies.
  • Work alongside technical teams to convert detailed designs into functional application systems.
  • Lead the development and detailing of Artificial Intelligence system designs and interfaces for data extraction, identification, and curation.
  • Assist in defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring they align with organizational goals.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior software engineers and ensure adherence to project timelines.
  • Manage various subtasks related to the development and support of customized software applications as defined by client needs.
  • Oversee the coding, integration, and testing of software components to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Test, debug, and refine applications to enhance performance and functionality.
  • Manage software development activities, including change tracking, version control, and continuous integration using tools such as Jira, Git, Gitlab, Bamboo, and Selenium.
  • Identify and propose opportunities to implement AI and Neural Network methodologies in alignment with strategic Data Science initiatives.
  • Implement AI tools to enhance search relevancy, identify content similarities, and improve customer and process interactions.
  • Prepare and maintain essential documentation, including both program-level and user-level documentation.
  • Document software designs, user interface designs, and technical processes.
  • Lead the evolution of the digital repository architecture, ensuring cloud deployment, redundancy, contingency operations, load balancing, and performance scaling.
  • Oversee the integration of new collections, content types, and data models into the repository, ensuring compliance with digital preservation best practices.
  • Participate in regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss requirements, designs, and software developments.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, management, and stakeholders regarding project progress and technical decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in information system design, including application programming and the development of complex software systems.
  • Proven expertise in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Neural Network techniques.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with AWS technologies, including AWS IAM, VPC, Lambda, Transcribe, Rekognition, Kendra, S3, EC2, and Glacier.
  • Demonstrated experience with Fedora Commons, Apache Solr, MySQL, and other relevant software and development tools.
  • Familiarity with digital library standards and formats, including MARC, METS, Dublin Core, and IIIF.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Java, Ruby on Rails, XML, JSON, RDF, and XSLT.
  • Experience with web application security testing, performance tuning, and vulnerability mitigation.
  • Ability to manage software migration, integration, and standardization projects.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Compensation and Benefits:

The projected compensation range for this position is competitive and reflective of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Salary is determined by various factors, including role, location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
