Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at Noland Hospital Birmingham - Downtown. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the nursing assessment, patient admissions, and development of the plan of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to nursing assessment by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition and signs and symptoms of deviations from normal health status
  • Participate in the development and modification of the Nursing Care Plan by providing data and using data collected to plan and prioritize work
  • Document the involvement of patient/family/significant other in the medical record
  • Contribute to the identification of appropriate nursing interventions to maintain comfort, support human functions, and responses
  • Assist with discharge planning and perform assigned nursing procedures for the comfort and well-being of patients
  • Assist patients with ambulation, assist physicians and nurses with special procedures, and assist with prescribed exercises, turning, massages, backrubs, and repositioning of patients
  • Monitor and record vital signs, neurological and neurovascular checks, identify and report abnormalities, and perform 12-lead EKG and apply electrodes to patients requiring cardiac monitoring and document appropriately
  • Interpret cardiac rhythm correctly and prepare patient for meals and assist or feed patients as needed
  • Verify placement of feeding tubes and administer tube feedings, monitor oxygen therapy for safety and effectiveness, and assist with nursing care procedures such as endotracheal or nasopharyngeal suctioning, intubation, extubation, and peritoneal dialysis as appropriate
  • Care for elimination needs, including enemas, irrigations, ostomy care, and urinary catheterizations, collect and properly label various types of specimens, and deliver appropriately if necessary
  • Monitor and record patient's fluid balance (intake and output), assist with I.V. therapy on hospital policy and Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) Scope of Practice guidelines, perform venipunctures, discontinue I.V. and Heparin lock at peripheral sites, perform site care and I.V. tubing changes, maintain nasogastric (NG) tubes per hospital policy and ABN guidelines, and properly label and hang peripheral I.V. fluids
  • Administer medications in accordance with policies and legal limitations, document according to policy and procedure, observe patients for reactions to drugs and report as needed, apply various treatments, dressings, or corrective devices as ordered, and assure all restraint orders are properly written and renewed prior to expiration
  • Monitor and record blood glucose accurately via glucometer, transcribe physicians' orders onto MAR Kardex, implement order following review and verification by Registered Nurse, document nursing interventions and responses to care, explain nursing interventions and provide appropriate education to patient and/or responsible person, and document on appropriate records
  • Perform phlebotomy and collect laboratory specimens according to established standards, monitor patient's skin integrity, report abnormal findings, and assist with follow-up orders and wound care, assess the patient for pain using a 1-10 pain rating scale or other rating method, and intervene promptly and appropriately for any identified pain
Requirements
  • Must be currently licensed as an LPN by the State of Alabama
  • Minimum of one year experience, hospital experience strongly preferred
