Position Summary
The MRI Technologist I is responsible for conducting imaging procedures in line with departmental protocols and standards. This role requires the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment with a high degree of skill. The equipment includes scanners, post-processing stations, IV contrast injectors, and patient monitoring devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and confirm orders for each assigned patient, consulting with the Radiologist as necessary.
- Accurately identify patients using two identifiers and provide a brief explanation of the procedures to them.
- Gather comprehensive medical histories from patients and document pertinent information accurately.
- Take ownership of the imaging process from initiation to the completion of results.
- Prepare and administer IV contrast in accordance with established protocols.
- Assess the technical quality of images and collaborate with Radiologists when required.
- Perform basic patient care duties and communicate any changes in patient conditions to nursing staff.
- Assist Physicians and Physician Assistants during invasive procedures, adhering to sterile techniques.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards for all personnel involved.
- Report any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisory personnel.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all areas are stocked and sanitized.
- Support other medical staff during procedures as needed.
- Stay informed about MRI safety protocols for staff and patients in magnetic field areas.
Physical Requirements
This position involves moderate to heavy physical activity, including lifting and moving patients and equipment. Employees may experience various physical conditions, such as walking on hard surfaces and working near moving machinery. Adherence to radiation safety guidelines is essential to minimize exposure.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
Applicants must be graduates of an accredited two-year AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or be actively enrolled in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry-eligible program. ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, along with advanced registry in MRI, is required within one year of hire. Current CPR certification is also mandatory.
