The Performance Engineering team is tasked with a comprehensive mission to investigate, identify, and resolve performance bottlenecks across our distributed systems. This encompasses the software we develop, data storage solutions, messaging frameworks, infrastructure, and the communication channels between various system components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In your role as a Principal Engineer, you will act as a senior technical authority within the team, conducting intricate analyses and coding to eliminate performance issues throughout our software ecosystem.
  • Develop software in and some Golang across multiple services that operate in production, supporting billions of logins monthly.
  • Create decision records and RFCs to articulate technical trade-offs and strategies, fostering awareness and consensus.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with service owners, architects, project managers, and platform and quality teams to drive performance enhancements across our technology stack.
  • Promote a proactive culture for performance management, enhancing knowledge and awareness of performance techniques, tools, patterns, and solutions throughout the engineering process to address performance challenges early in the software development lifecycle.
  • Engage with all aspects of the Customer Identity Cloud service offering, including code, infrastructure, and architectural elements.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in senior software engineering roles within a remote work environment.
  • Strong self-motivation coupled with a keen aptitude for investigation and experimentation.
  • Experience in developing application software using frameworks such as or Fastify, with familiarity in Golang being advantageous.
  • Knowledge of API-driven cloud-native distributed system architectures operating in Kubernetes, AWS, and Azure.
  • Experience with APM tools such as Datadog APM, Splunk, Honeycomb, New Relic, Dynatrace, or similar.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
  • Experience in designing and executing performance experiments aimed at validating improvements in key metrics such as requests per second (RPS), P95 and P99 latency, query performance, request concurrency, CPU/memory utilization, and cost efficiency.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in conveying technical issues and solutions effectively in a remote-friendly environment.
  • A passion for enhancing software performance while maintaining reliability and security.
  • Outstanding collaboration skills with a proven track record of cross-functional teamwork.
