The Wall Street Journal, a trusted news organization in America, is looking for talented individuals to join its News Associates Program in New York.

Salary

We offer a competitive salary of $65,520 per year ($36 hourly).

Job Description

This 24-month post-graduate program provides immersive exposure to all aspects of the newsroom through robust classroom-based and on-the-job training.

You will receive six months of reporting experience in a regional U.S. news bureau, with accommodation provided.

Throughout the program, you will rotate through various departments, gaining expertise in audience engagement, editing, reporting, social media, and other essential areas.

  • Audience Development: Learn how to connect with our audience, analyze data, and craft compelling content for various platforms.
  • Editing: Develop a keen eye for detail as you assist editors in refining stories for accuracy, clarity, and style.
  • Reporting: Hone your breaking news skills, develop sources, and write compelling stories under the guidance of award-winning journalists.
  • Social Media: Identify stories with strong social potential, pitch, script, and be on camera for social video.
  • Other News Essentials: Depending on the needs of the newsroom, you may also gain experience in areas like data, graphics, podcasting, and video production.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Up to one year of journalism experience, including newsroom internships
  • A demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment as part of a team
  • Strong writing and data reporting skills, including experience using tools for web analytics
  • A strong interest in current affairs, a hunger for news, and an understanding of the competitive landscape for digital news media
  • A commitment to a career in journalism
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
  • A willingness to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice
