Job Title: Health Record Technician II

Under the general direction of the Outpatient Services Correctional Health Services Administrator I, the Health Record Technician II will direct a team of Office Technician staff responsible for scheduling medical appointments. The incumbent must train, supervise, and manage workload, as well as monitor activity in the program to evaluate backlogs, raise policy concerns, and develop new processes to facilitate timely access to care for patients.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Health Record Technician I, or
  • Four years of increasingly responsible medical or health records experience, performing a variety of tasks including at least two years of coding, indexing, and abstracting health data.

Successful completion of an academic curriculum in medical records science in an accredited school may be substituted for the required general experience on a year-for-year basis. To obtain list eligibility for the classification, candidates must first take and pass the examination.

Special Requirements
  • The position requires a Background Investigation to be cleared prior to being hired.

Candidates must not include any confidential information on any documents submitted for a job vacancy, such as their State application, resume, or educational transcripts. Confidential information that should be excluded or removed from these documents includes, but is not limited to, Social Security Number (SSN), birthdate, student identification number, driver's license number (unless required), basis of eligibility, examination results, LEAP status, marital status, and age.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If candidates are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, they must include their unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined a candidate does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
