Neutron will be our next advancement, an innovative 13-tonne payload class, reusable rocket aimed at deploying the mega constellations of the future.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are in search of a Senior Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Machining to join our team. This role will be based at Rocket Lab's Engine Development Center. The successful candidate will oversee the machining development for new products and modifications related to our engine lines. You will collaborate closely with the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and the Production team, providing essential deliverables for internal stakeholders.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position requires a staggered shift from Monday to Thursday, 12 PM to 9 PM, and Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in design reviews, leveraging expertise in design for manufacturing, machining, productivity, and quality assurance.
  • Identify, acquire, and set up machine shop equipment while developing maintenance and calibration protocols.
  • Enhance in-house machining capabilities for specific components and facilitate rapid prototyping.
  • Design and implement tooling and equipment for production environments to enhance quality, delivery, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives within the fabrication department.
  • Collaborate with other Rocket Lab machine shops to ensure alignment and support.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and machinists on a daily basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a machine shop environment.
  • Proficient in rapidly iterating CAM programs (NX preferred) and operating 5-axis CNC machinery.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and inspection techniques.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate a computer keyboard, and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to commute to various facilities.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary based on operational demands.
  • Availability to work the specified hours is essential.

Base Pay Range (CA Only): $95,000 — $135,000 USD
