As a Hospital Veterinarian at Petco, you will be part of a world-class organization dedicated to delivering exceptional veterinary care. Your primary responsibilities will include providing excellent patient care, performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality patient care by conducting thorough physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and implementing preventive care measures.
  • Utilize a problem-based approach to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients, including differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatments based on test results.
  • Document all patient observations, findings, treatments, and client interactions in the medical record.
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory surgeries, and mass removals.
  • Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization, transition them to overnight care as needed, and communicate effectively with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of care.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located or the ability to obtain by start date.
  • A current DEA license.
  • A current Controlled Substance License, if applicable, in the state where the hospital is located or the ability to obtain by start date.
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.
