Job Summary:


We are seeking a highly motivated Research Animal Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for monitoring and caring for the health and well-being of research animals while supporting foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world.



About the Role:


The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience with demonstrated competence working with animals within a research lab and/or working with animals. You will be responsible for performing daily veterinary services room rounds, examining rodents and aquatic animals, and communicating with a veterinarian and/or veterinary technician regarding findings. Additionally, you will monitor and perform rodent colony management, ensuring compliance with facility guidelines and SOPs.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Performs daily veterinary services room rounds by examining rodents and aquatic animals, looking for health or well-being concerns and communicates with a veterinarian and/or veterinary technician regarding findings.
  • Monitors and performs rodent colony management and ensures compliance with facility guidelines and SOPs.
  • Documents and communicates actions taken to support animal welfare and research.
  • Submits special service charges for services provided.
  • Ensures that areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and adequately supplied.


Requirements:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience with demonstrated competence working with animals within a research lab and/or working with animals.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • Thrives working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Is flexible and completes the job before leaving work. Animal care is a 7-days per week, -days per year job.


Working Conditions:


This role requires standing, bending, and walking for extended periods. The ability to lift and transport equipment, supplies, and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters is also required. May be required to work with biological, chemical, and radiation hazards after proper training.



Compensation:


The estimated salary range for this role is $15.75-$21.65 per hour, depending on experience.
