Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Field Quality Engineer to join our team at Sound Transit. As a key member of our quality assurance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of our approved Project Quality Management Plan (QMP) and aligning it with our agency Quality Management System Plan (QMSP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify potential construction quality activities and collaborate with agency and contractor representatives to find resolutions.
  • Provide full-time, on-site presence at multiple sites, including locations with limited public transportation.
  • Produce daily field reports on project activities affecting quality, including detailed accounts of ongoing construction tasks and identified deviations from quality standards.
  • Review and interpret complex documents, such as engineering documents and policies, to determine accuracy in accordance with agency QMSP and project-specific QMP.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive action plans to address quality issues and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Actively coordinate and communicate quality requirements with the Construction Management Consultant (CMC) and/or Design Build Project Management (DBPM) staff.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field and 8 years of field construction experience in transit and/or transportation projects.
  • Valid state driver's license and ability to travel to active construction sites, stations, and facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of construction management and/or quality assurance in a construction environment, including the ability to identify, analyze, communicate, and address a wide variety of issues and problems effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical information into clear and concise communications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong adaptability to adjust to changing demands and competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer or Architect Licenses, or Project/Construction Management Certifications.
  • Quality Engineer Certification (CQE), Certified Construction Quality Inspector (CQI), or Certified Quality Technician (CQT).
  • Experience in implementation of construction quality program requirements, transit/transportation project management, and quality control systems.
What We Offer

Sound Transit offers a competitive salary range of $120k to $215k, with a midpoint of $165k.
