Job Title: Compensation & Payroll Coordinator

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a highly skilled Compensation & Payroll Coordinator to join our team at our Superior Township, Michigan facility.

Job Summary

The Compensation & Payroll Coordinator will be responsible for supporting our compensation strategy and payroll functions across various locations, including Michigan, California, Georgia, Alabama, and Massachusetts. This role will involve analyzing our current total compensation packages, working with the HR team to enhance and optimize our compensation strategy, and ensuring employees are compensated correctly and on time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement systems to process payroll account transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes, and third-party payments.
  • Coordinate timekeeping and payroll systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee the processing of payroll changes, such as new hires, terminations, and raises, and system upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and internal policies.
  • Supervise and coach payroll clerks and assistants to ensure high-quality work.
  • Liaise with auditors and manage payroll tax audits to minimize risks.
  • Process other financial compensations or deductions, such as annual bonuses, severance pay, taxes, and worker's compensation.
  • Handle benefit expenses, including insurance fees and paid leave.
  • Produce reports to upper management upon request to inform strategic decisions.
  • Answer employee questions or complaints about salaries and payments in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work with authorities, such as the IRS, on audits or requests to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure accurate payroll records.
  • Handle off-cycle payroll transactions and process exempt and non-exempt payroll information as monthly or bi-weekly payroll.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, human resources, or a relevant field.
  • Proven experience as a payroll coordinator or similar role, with up to 5 years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with payroll software/HRIS, such as SAP, ADP, or Kronos, and MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Analytical research skills to analyze external benchmarking data for compensation comparison.
  • Experience defining and implementing comprehensive compensation strategies to enhance our competitive edge.
