Anesthesia Technician Job Description

As an Anesthesia Technician at URMC Strong Memorial Hospital, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms. Your primary responsibility will be to assist anesthesiologists, residents, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare equipment, place monitors, clean equipment, and ensure the availability of specialized equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate continuously with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and other technologists to ensure their needs are met.
  • Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and the placement of central lines.
  • Operate the cell-saver machine, track lab reports, and participate in advanced surgical cases such as cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, and trauma.
  • Provide primary support in ensuring that anesthesia equipment is in good working order and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Set up and operate sophisticated equipment and perform advanced troubleshooting.
  • Serve as the key resource person in using and maintaining specialized equipment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training programs and train staff in roles and responsibilities.
  • Perform equipment set up and troubleshooting, including testing infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, monitors, calibrating machines, and attaching bronchoscopes to video monitors.
  • Set up rooms between cases, manage carts throughout the day, and provide full service setup at the end of the day.
  • Work with other hospital units to ensure the availability of specialized anesthesia equipment.
  • Set up and support procedures in non-operating room settings, ensuring proper equipment is in place.
  • Provide backup to the shift supervisor during absences.
