Position Overview

AECOM is looking for an Electrical Engineer to lead our expanding offshore wind division within the Energy Business Line. Our extensive technical expertise and global presence position us uniquely to excel in the offshore wind sector. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely or from various Energy offices across the United States.

Our team provides comprehensive electrical engineering services across multiple market sectors, including:
  • Transmission and Distribution (substations, overhead/underground systems, generator interconnections)
  • Power Distribution (overhead/underground power systems, EV charging networks, microgrid design)
  • Renewable Energy (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind)
  • Next Generation Energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, RNG)
As the engineering lead for wind energy projects, we seek a candidate with a robust background in power engineering to engage new clients and nurture existing relationships. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in electrical power engineering and project leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and capable of making independent decisions. In addition to technical expertise, you will mentor other electrical engineers within our Power Engineering group. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing electrical engineering design for assigned projects
  • Collaborating with senior engineers on strategic initiatives for offshore wind
  • Providing guidance to junior engineers in the Energy Center of Excellence
  • Assisting in the development of workload forecasts, design schedules, and budgets
  • Acting as the "Engineer of Record" for projects
  • Conducting power system studies
  • Supporting business development efforts related to renewable wind energy
  • Performing technical risk assessments and due diligence
  • Working with environmental teams on permit filings
  • Advocating for clients' technical interests in an owner's engineer capacity
  • Generating essential electrical engineering deliverables for all project phases
  • Creating construction and equipment specifications
  • Supporting projects during construction, startup, and commissioning phases
  • Reviewing engineering work completed by peers
  • Occasional travel to project sites as necessary
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in Transmission and Distribution and offshore wind engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
Preferred Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, IEC, DNVGL, ISO, UFC, API)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead engineering tasks
  • Expertise in HV and MV AC design and high voltage DC design
  • Experience with submarine and subsea cable design
  • Familiarity with project financial performance and techno-economic analysis
  • Experience in specifying converter stations
  • Knowledge of FACTS technology
  • Proficiency in power systems analysis software
  • Experience with wind industry applications
  • Successful collaboration in remote and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Field experience in startup and commissioning
