Job Summary

The Payroll Clerk will serve the Lucas County Auditor's Office as an unclassified, at-will position and report to the Payroll Manager/Director. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail to provide accurate and timely distribution of pay to all County Agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process new hire forms and receive electronic versions of signed payroll documents from all Lucas County Agencies.
  • Using PeopleSoft and Oracle applications, process employee deductions, direct deposit requests, and voluntary after-tax insurance plans.
  • Process changes to federal tax withholdings, Ohio Department of Taxation employee withholding exemption certificates, and employees' statements of residency.
  • Monitor the OPERS ECS system for requests and process employee wage assignments.
  • Reconcile and prepare biweekly garnishment vouchers and union dues vouchers.
  • Conduct employment verifications and research historical employment data as needed.
  • Submit and confirm electronic payment remittance for monthly OPERS payment.
  • Maintain and prepare local SDIT tax withholding documents and file year-end W-2 information.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Accounting or Bookkeeping or equivalent work experience.
  • One year of experience in payroll processing.
  • Ability to type 50 words per minute.
  • No reprimand or discipline for one year prior to applying.
Preferred Qualifications
  • APA FPC Certification.
  • Experience in professional office setting.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person, via telephone, and via email.
