Associate Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology

POSITION SUMMARY:
This role involves supporting the Chief of OB/GYN in the oversight and management of recruitment, scheduling, and supervision of OB/GYN (INPT/OPT) Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure that the provision of medical services in the OB/GYN department aligns with the organization's mission, vision, and values.

• Collaborate with various disciplines to implement departmental programs, policies, and procedures that address patient care needs.

• Assist in coordinating the monthly clinician schedule and maintaining the department's patient census and requirements.

• Support the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of the department's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and Risk Management Plans.

• Participate in patient chart audits to ensure content and completeness, and engage in Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) as necessary.

• Review adverse case outcomes and malpractice claims, and assist in completing incident reports.

• Collaborate with OB/GYN nursing leadership to enhance patient care and provide necessary education.

• May supervise the department as required and assist in overseeing the Lead Certified Nurse Midwife.

• Maintain current knowledge and proficiency in OB/GYN medical practices through ongoing education, staff meetings, workshops, and self-study.

• Conduct patient interviews and examinations, including comprehensive history and physical assessments when appropriate.

• Order, perform, review, and interpret relevant diagnostic tests and studies.

• Diagnose a range of illnesses and conditions, prescribing various therapies and interventions based on professional medical judgment.

• Arrange for specialized care or transfer of patients needing a higher level of care or services not readily available.

• Conduct outpatient continuity clinics for patients with diverse obstetrical and gynecological conditions, initiating, reviewing, and modifying medications and therapies as necessary.

• Provide consultations and guidance in care, within the scope of practice, to providers within the department and other departments.

• Ensure timely completion of medical records.

• Participate in hospital committees and meetings, including but not limited to Medical Executive Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and Medical Staff meetings.

• Offer ongoing medical education for rotating medical students, residents, and students from other healthcare disciplines.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in OB/GYN (INPT/OPT) Services with a background in quality improvement and/or leadership.

EDUCATION:
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical School Program.
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program.
  • Board Eligible or Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Possession of an active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S. State or Territory.
  • Current, valid unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License.
