This role is designated for a Physical Therapist within Contracted Services.

Position Purpose

Under the guidance of the Director of Student Support Services, the Physical Therapist will facilitate the educational experience of students with disabilities or physical challenges in their least restrictive environment. This includes the development, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive physical therapy program, alongside providing screening, evaluation, and intervention services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and oversee the physical therapy program within the educational setting, ensuring alignment with the district's philosophy, vision, procedures, and objectives.
  • Assess the physical therapy requirements of students through appropriate testing, professional observations, and supplementary information.
  • Communicate assessment results effectively to parents and educational staff.
  • Contribute to the formulation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Develop and execute intervention strategies tailored to individual student needs.
  • Create physical management and environmental modification plans for classroom activities, providing training to staff for safe implementation.
  • Plan for student transitions from school to community, enabling independence from therapy services once objectives are met.
  • Monitor and report on student progress regularly.
  • Consult with educators, parents, administrators, healthcare professionals, and community members to address the physical therapy needs of students.
  • Serve as a resource for parents and school staff regarding disabilities and their educational implications.
  • Collaborate with community therapists and healthcare providers to ensure effective physical therapy service delivery.
  • Evaluate the necessity for assistive technology and equipment, making recommendations for its use in the educational environment.
  • Assist in planning safe transportation and emergency evacuation procedures for students with disabilities.
  • Document physical therapy services and maintain records in compliance with district policies and applicable laws.
  • Engage in continuous professional development through seminars, workshops, and research to stay informed about current educational practices.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Services and designated administrators.
Equipment Utilization
  • Utilize standard office equipment, including personal computers, printers, copiers, and telephones.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel to various district buildings and professional meetings as necessary.
Qualifications

Certification/License:
  • State Certification to practice as evidenced by current state licensure as a Physical Therapist.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program.
Experience:
  • Prior successful experience as a Physical Therapist, preferably in an educational or pediatric setting.
