Medical Records Specialist

VRC Companies is seeking a highly detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our VitalChart department, you will be responsible for processing medical records requests in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy and quality service to our healthcare clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process medical records requests and verify patient authorizations
- Access and retrieve medical records from electronic and physical repositories
- Validate requests and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations
- Classify request types correctly and log requests into our ROI software
- Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and prevent breaches of protected health information
- Release requests to authorized entities and reject non-compliant requests
- Document exceptions, communications, and other relevant information related to requests
- Collaborate with the ROI Area Manager and/or ROI Team Leader to address quality, connectivity, and client concerns
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; degree preferred
- Prior experience with ROI fulfillment and medical records preferred
- Demonstrated attention to detail, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Ability to maintain productivity and quality performance in a fast-paced environment
- Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA regulations preferred
- Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms and Microsoft Office products preferred
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work 8 hours quietly at a computer screen and keyboard/mouse
- Ability to withstand pressures of constant deadlines, training demands, and changing healthcare environment
- Manual dexterity and strength sufficient to enter information via computer keyboard for long periods of time
- Eyesight sufficient to effectively read documents and accurately view information on a computer monitor
- Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively
