Job Overview:
Renal Transplant Nurse Specialists play a crucial role in the care of patients undergoing renal transplant surgery at Albany Medical Center. These dedicated professionals work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients with end-stage renal disease, requiring access for renal replacement therapy, and those undergoing peritoneal dialysis and/or telemetry monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:
Manage patients with primary diagnoses including pre and postoperative surgical patients, with a focus on the renal transplant patient, simultaneous pancreas/kidney (SPK) transplant patient, pancreas after kidney (PAK) transplant, and patients requiring hemodialysis access. Provide education on self-care measures necessary to maintain the health of both the patient and the transplanted graft(s).

Work Environment:
The Renal Transplant unit provides care to general medicine and surgical patients, with a general level of acuity that is both acute and chronic. Common diagnoses include Renal Transplant, Complications of Renal Transplant, Parathyroidectomy, Simultaneous Renal/Pancreas Transplant, Live Donor Nephrectomy, and Hemodialysis Access. Treatment modalities include IV therapy, antibiotic therapy, blood and blood products transfusion, sterile dressings, tube feeding, surgical drains, and immunosuppressive therapy for transplant recipients.

Requirements and Qualifications:
A RN III license is required for this position. Estimated Annual Salary: $108,000 - $120,000 based on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) plan, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
