Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Driver - Roll Off to join our team at GFL Environmental. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for collecting waste and ensuring the efficient operation of our roll-off trucks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate roll-off trucks and ancillary equipment to collect waste, adhering to all safety standards and regulations.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, daily truck reports, and other documentation as required by supervisors.
  • Communicate vehicle mechanical issues to mechanics and supervisors promptly.
  • Maintain route quality standards and operate trucks using prescribed techniques to prevent driver-induced mechanical failures.
  • Follow all safety protocols, equipment checks, and precautions while performing duties.
  • Communicate potential hazards to supervisors before performing tasks.
  • Maintain a clean vehicle by cleaning the cab interior and exterior.
  • Report accidents or incidents to supervisors immediately.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor, manner, and appearance at all times.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment is worn at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed.
  • Work closely with supervisors to improve routing efficiencies.
  • Attend safety and branch meetings.
  • May be required to work overtime.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired.
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Minimum one (1) year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
  • Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with others.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and apply to the job.
  • Ability to write simple reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple correspondence and instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense reasoning to carry out instructions and solve general problems.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision.
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
  • Sitting is required up to 75% of the time due to driving.
  • Ability to work in usually loud conditions.
Working Conditions
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy weather, extreme hot and cold temperatures, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work in outdoor environments up to 100% of the time.
  • Work route away from branch location on a continuous basis throughout the day.
  • Occasionally work in high precarious places.
  • Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
  • Work environment is usually loud.
