Job Overview
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a crucial role in assisting professional nursing staff in delivering patient care within the designated area.
This position involves aiding patients with daily living activities, providing personal care, emotional support, and executing more advanced clinical tasks under the supervision of registered nursing personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Communicates with and keeps the supervisor updated on unit activities, needs, and issues related to patient care.
- Delivers general nursing assistance, including patient positioning, lifting, turning, and utilizing specialized equipment, as well as aiding in the use of bedpans, urinals, or commodes, ambulating patients, and providing pre-operative and post-operative care.
- Accurately measures and records vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, and blood pressure, ensuring timely documentation.
- Prepares patient rooms and beds for admissions and transfers, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and maintaining a clean and comfortable environment.
- Assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including handling personal belongings and property.
- Responds to patient call lights, telephone inquiries, and paging systems appropriately.
- Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, performs routine treatment procedures, including enemas and the application of heat and cold therapies.
- Responsible for the safe application and removal of restraints under the direction of an RN, ensuring proper patient positioning and alignment.
- Supports Registered Nurses and/or Licensed Vocational Nurses in complex patient treatment procedures.
- Serves and collects patient meal trays promptly, assisting with feeding and meal preparation as needed.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is essential.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Basic computer skills are necessary.
- Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, prioritize responsibilities, and perform under pressure.
- Capability to maintain positive working relationships within the department and across other departments.
- Willingness to perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Completion of a nursing assistant training program is required.
- Current Nursing Assistant Certification is mandatory.
- BLS Certification is required.
- A minimum of six months of experience in an acute or long-term care setting is preferred.
