The Department of Fleet and Facility Management (2FM) Bureau of Environmental, Health and Safety Management is seeking qualified candidates to coordinate and oversee environmental health and safety initiatives within the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulates, revises, and executes environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies, procedures, programs, and permits in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, USEPA, IEPA, IDOL, CDPH).
  • Directs EHS projects, including the preparation of scopes of work, timelines, and budgets, while managing the contributions of consultants, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Assesses work environments, equipment, and processes to ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety standards and governmental regulations.
  • Identifies EHS training requirements and personal protective equipment needs based on departmental operations, and conducts or facilitates training sessions.
  • Conducts investigations into incidents to ascertain their causes and recommends corrective measures to avert future occurrences.
  • Manages medical monitoring programs to track and maintain results of employee testing.
  • Generates narrative and statistical reports detailing the status of EHS activities and compliance efforts.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

WORK SCHEDULE

Location: 2 North LaSalle

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety Management, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field, plus three (3) years of experience in developing, analyzing, and monitoring environmental health and safety programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid State of Illinois Driver's license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to climb stairs and ladders.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General office environment with potential exposure to loud noise, fumes, dust, and hazardous conditions during fieldwork.
