POSITION SUMMARY
The Retail Operations Cashier plays a crucial role in managing daily cash transactions for the thrift store, ensuring accurate cash handling and record-keeping. This position also involves overseeing the quality of merchandise and fostering positive interactions with customers and volunteers.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Store Opening Duties:
Prepare the cash register for daily sales, unlock store facilities, and set up for volunteer assistance.

  • Ensure smooth and orderly processing of all sales transactions.
  • Document the closing balance, reconcile daily sales, and manage cash flow. Adhere to closing protocols.
  • Supervise the quality control of merchandise, which includes sorting, tagging, and displaying items for sale.
  • Maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with volunteers.
  • Act as a representative of the organization, addressing customer inquiries, concerns, and special requests. Provide donors with necessary tax documentation.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience Requirements
A high school diploma or GED is required, or current enrollment in a high school program. Experience in retail or customer service is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Understanding of customer service principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with financial record-keeping and bookkeeping methods.
  • Proficient in standard office practices, including filing and operating office equipment.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping principles and basic computer applications.
  • Effective communication techniques for interacting with colleagues and the public, both in person and via phone.
  • Proficient in business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Ability to perform accurate arithmetic calculations.
  • Capability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Proficient in using business software and related computer hardware.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written formats.
  • Ability to work independently in standard work environments.
  • Contribute positively to team objectives and activities.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
A valid driver's license may be necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work occurs in a retail setting, which may include standard office environments and outdoor activities.

Physical tasks involve lifting items such as bags and boxes exceeding 20 pounds, along with frequent handling of lighter objects. Continuous standing, bending, and walking are required throughout the workday.
