The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a Director of Innovation for the UVA Lab School. This role is pivotal in fostering a collaborative educational environment that emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and student engagement. The Director will oversee the UVA Innovation Hub, a partnership initiative aimed at enriching the educational landscape for middle school students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and identify the current needs of the lab school, providing insights and formulating strategies for the Governing Board's priorities.
- Supervise the staff of the UVA Innovation Hub, including the Lab Manager, Research Scientist, and Innovation Specialists, ensuring effective performance management and professional development.
- Administer the Innovation Academy Fellowship program, focusing on professional growth and development for educators.
- Collaborate with community partners to enhance educational opportunities and strengthen connections for students and teachers.
- Establish and maintain partnerships that support the development and sustainability of the lab school.
- Manage contractual agreements related to the lab school operations.
- Oversee the budget for the UVA Innovation Hub, ensuring optimal resource allocation in collaboration with the governing board.
- Engage stakeholders, gathering feedback from students, parents, and community members to inform practices and initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required.
Experience: A minimum of eight years in progressively responsible roles is necessary. A Master's degree may substitute for some experience, and relevant exempt-level experience may also be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in integrating computer science within K-8 educational settings.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of successful collaborative initiatives.
- Expertise in program design, management, and event coordination.
- Experience in providing professional learning experiences focused on computer science integration for K-8 educators.
- A commitment to personal and professional growth as part of a team.
- Demonstrated professionalism and sound decision-making abilities.
Physical Demands:
This position primarily involves sedentary work with extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel may be required for meetings and programs.
