The Army National Guard is seeking highly skilled individuals to maintain the M1 Abrams Tank, a critical component of the armored forces. As a Tank System Maintainer, you will be responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on these vehicles, ensuring they remain operational and effective.
Key Responsibilities:- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in the tank's systems, including suspension, steering, hydraulic, and auxiliary power units.
- Perform organizational maintenance and on-board direct support tasks on the tank's systems, including fire extinguisher/suppression systems and gas particulate systems.
- Conduct routine maintenance on vehicular mounted armament, gun turret drive system, and fire control system.
- Electronic and mechanical principles and concepts.
- Use of electronic, electrical, and mechanical test equipment.
- Use of schematics, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Interest in working with diesel and turbine engines.
Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to enjoy a civilian career as an electronics mechanic, an avionics technician, or a missile facilities repairer with civilian firms that design, build, and test weapons for the military.
In the Army National Guard, you will learn these valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance. Job training for an M1 Abrams Tank Systems Maintainer requires 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 24 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field.
