Position Overview:
As a vital member of the Cardiology team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will engage in a variety of technical procedures while ensuring high standards of patient care. The role encompasses:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute essential technical tasks, including:
- Initiating IVs and administering medications and intravenous solutions with precision.
- Conducting stress tests, including regular, thallium, and pharmacologic types.
- Setting up holter monitors and performing ECGs, pacemaker assessments, and cardiac event recordings.
- Engaging in telephone triage under the guidance of Registered Nurses and/or Medical Doctors.
- Providing patient education and support.
- Assisting physicians and physician extenders in daily operations.
- Maintaining awareness of emergency equipment locations and adhering to emergency protocols as needed.
- Managing sample medication supplies as required.
- Participating in the Coumadin clinic as per established protocols.
- Performing additional related duties as assigned.
- Reporting lab results to patients following physician directives.
- Documenting comprehensive and accurate patient information, including history and medications, in accordance with policy.
Support and Collaboration:
Assist the head nurse as needed, including:
- Providing coverage as requested by the Nurse Manager.
- Participating in nursing staff meetings to share knowledge and insights.
- Aiding in the orientation of new staff members when necessary.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by:
- Adhering to safety guidelines and policies, including proper cleaning of equipment and instruments.
- Reporting any concerns to the Nurse Manager.
- Performing duties across various areas to support the effective operation of the practice.
Administrative Duties:
Complete necessary documentation at the Licensed Practical Nurse level, including insurance and disability forms.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid NYS LPN license/registration.
- Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is mandatory.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in an outpatient specialty setting is highly desirable.
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday during daytime hours.
