Job Summary

As a Surgical Technologist at Riverside Health System, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care in the operating room. This is a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to prepare and maintain equipment, instrumentation, and supplies on the sterile field. Your attention to detail and ability to work under pressure will be essential in maintaining a safe and efficient surgical environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicians to provide specialized care to surgical patients, building trusting relationships to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Anticipate and prepare for equipment and supply needs, ensuring timely and cost-effective arrangements.
  • Monitor and support personal and departmental needs, including flexing and shift changes to meet the needs of the department.
  • Maintain aseptic environments during surgical procedures, adhering to AORN Standards and recording breaks in technique.
  • Ensure safe practices by following RHS policies and procedures, as well as guidelines outlined in AORN, CMS, and DNV.
  • Communicate changes to preference cards and maintain accurate records.
  • Build collaborative professional relationships with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs.
  • Participate in supply utilization, new equipment/product evaluations, and identify solutions for cost containment and waste reduction.
  • Support the perioperative registered nurse and team in patient care, demonstrating responsibility for accurate handling/management of specimens and surgical counts.
Requirements

Education
  • Program Graduate, Surgical Technology (Preferred)
Experience
  • 1 year Experience in surgical tech (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Surgical Technologist - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Licensed as Surgical Technologist with State of Virginia Upon Hire (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 90 Days (Required)
  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Upon Hire (Required) or
  • Tech in Surgery - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Upon Hire (Required)
