Overview of the Role
As a key member of the MedStar Health team, the Clinical Education Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive assessment, strategic planning, development, execution, and evaluation of educational initiatives aimed at enhancing the performance of nursing staff and promoting their professional growth. This role is integral to supporting the mission, vision, and core values of MedStar Health and the Nursing Department.
Core Responsibilities
The Clinical Education Specialist will:
- Contribute to the achievement of departmental objectives while adhering to established policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with relevant governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Utilize effective teaching methodologies that foster critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practices, incorporating adult learning principles.
- Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to nursing staff to enhance their professional practice and career progression.
- Collaborate with various departments and external partners to gather insights necessary for the development of pertinent educational programs.
- Act as a liaison with academic institutions and facilitate clinical placements for students.
- Design and conduct educational sessions that inform and guide staff in the adoption of new procedures, technologies, and patient care practices, offering continuing education credits when applicable.
- Plan and coordinate educational offerings for nursing personnel, considering mandatory regulatory requirements, quality and safety standards, and opportunities for clinical advancement.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Master's degree in Clinical Nursing, Nursing Education, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3-4 years of progressive clinical nursing experience, with a preference for experience in staff development or continuing education.
- A valid RN license in the State of Maryland.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic proficiency in mathematics and computer skills.
Professional Development
The Clinical Education Specialist is committed to ongoing professional development, staying informed about current trends and innovations in nursing practice, education, and the use of simulation technologies. This role supports the transition of newly licensed nurses through structured residency programs and actively participates in multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives.
