Cleaning Associate

Part Time, Non-Exempt

Compensation: $16.00/hour

Position Overview:

Cleaning associates are responsible for performing cleaning, janitorial, and porter duties throughout the museum. Their primary focus is to maintain the cleanliness of the museum facilities, which includes vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, and ensuring restrooms are clean and stocked. The overall cleanliness and aesthetic of the museum are vital to its success. This is a union position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sanitize and restock restrooms as needed during shifts.
  • Address spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning requirements promptly.
  • Manage trash and recycling disposal throughout the day.
  • Sweep and maintain cleanliness both inside and outside museum premises.
  • Handle clean-up and decontamination of bodily fluids, adhering to all safety protocols.
Additional Duties:
  • Follow cleaning protocols for restrooms as directed by the Facility Manager.
  • Conduct sweeping and mopping tasks as assigned.
  • Perform vacuuming, dusting, and spot cleaning of carpets as instructed.
  • Utilize industrial cleaning equipment for various cleaning tasks, including ladders for wall and ceiling maintenance.
  • Remove stains from surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Assist in the disposal of trash and recycling as directed.
  • Clean windows as required.
  • Understand and execute emergency procedures (e.g., fire evacuation, incident reporting).
  • Support the receipt of cleaning supplies.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience:
  • Prior experience in commercial cleaning is preferred but not mandatory.
Skills:
  • Reliability and dependability.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Understanding of safety and health protocols.
  • Attention to detail and consistency.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Regular movement throughout the museum for cleaning purposes.
  • Occasional lifting of heavier items, with assistance when necessary.
  • Tasks may involve climbing ladders and using various cleaning tools.

Work Environment and Schedule:
  • Hours will be determined based on operational needs.
  • Availability for weekends and occasional evening shifts is required.
  • Position involves interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
Clearances:
  • FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse History Certificate (Act 33), and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are mandatory.
