JOB OBJECTIVE:

To effectively plan, organize, supervise, coordinate, and manage the operations of the Engineering Department, ensuring the maintenance of the hospital's physical infrastructure, HVAC systems, mechanical and electrical utilities, and grounds in a safe and functional state. This role also ensures adherence to hospital policies and regulatory guidelines throughout all assigned projects.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Support the Director in the evaluation and review of staff performance.
  • Deliver continuous training and development opportunities for Facilities and Plant Engineering personnel to enhance their job capabilities.
  • Assist the Director in the recruitment process for new departmental staff.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director to formulate, assess, and enhance policies and procedures governing Engineering operations.
  • Contribute to the development, management, and oversight of the departmental budget.
  • Oversee construction initiatives; interpret project requirements from client requests; solicit bids from subcontractors; secure competitive pricing; organize project meetings; notify subcontractors of project commencement; supervise contractors on interior finishes.
  • Partner with the Director and the Physical Environment and Safety Coordinator in managing facility construction projects.
  • Ensure that the quality of work complies with standards and regulations; conduct follow-ups during and post-project to confirm that all requirements are satisfied; familiarize oneself with facility specifications and submissions.
  • Conduct inspections above ceiling tiles; coordinate shutdowns for construction activities.
  • Perform pre-construction evaluations in collaboration with Engineering, Safety, and Infection Control departments to identify project needs and requirements.
  • Interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams; update drawings as construction progresses; conduct quality control inspections on all construction projects.
  • Act as a liaison with building owners of leased spaces, coordinating maintenance and grounds work as needed.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma (or GED equivalent) is mandatory. A college degree in Business, Healthcare, or a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of ten years in a relevant engineering environment, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

No specific certifications required by law.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Extensive knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, building structures, and construction processes, along with an understanding of life safety systems and hospital regulatory requirements, is preferred. Familiarity with budgeting procedures is also advantageous. A valid driver's license and adherence to the organization's vehicle safety policies are preferred.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • General understanding of computer-based preventive maintenance and work order systems.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) controls and monitoring programs.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
