Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Benefits Specialist II to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for conducting interviews, evaluating qualifications, and making eligibility determinations for financial assistance programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with customers to gather information and evaluate qualifications for financial assistance programs.
  • Evaluate customer information and make eligibility determinations in accordance with federal and state policies and guidelines.
  • Enter information into VDSS or county systems (VaMMIS/VaCMS/Thomas Bros) and submit local reports as needed.
  • Explain responsibilities, rights, and program availability to customers.
  • Review VDSS broadcasts and refer suspected fraud cases to the Fraud Investigator.
  • Provide emergency shelter duty in times of emergencies or natural disasters.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma supplemented with additional training and experience.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply policies and regulations for public assistance programs.
  • Ability to schedule and manage own workload to meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in the use of micro-computers and computer software such as word processing and database applications.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
