Job Summary:

This Environmental Engineer will support the Air Quality Team at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting air quality permits, including conditions that ensure compliance with state and federal air pollution laws and regulations. The position will also involve reviewing and processing technical reports from the regulated community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and evaluate environmental permit applications, reports, facility designs, plans, and cost estimates.
  • Develop permits, action plans, and recommendations based on the review and evaluation of applicable environmental regulations.
  • Participate in site visits, data collection, inspections, and investigations related to environmental topics.
  • Review technical/program documents and applications.
  • Perform environmental calculations based on provided methodologies.
  • Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, staff, and the public on environmental impact and regulation.
  • Assist in preparing environmental guidance documents.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or chemical engineering.
  • 0-1 year of experience for Level 1.
  • 2 years' experience for Level 2 (Master's or Doctorate degree may substitute for 2 years of experience).
  • 5 years' experience for Level 3 (Master's degree can substitute for 2 years of experience, Doctorate can substitute for 4 years of experience).
  • Engineer in Training/Fundamentals in Engineering certification required for Level 3 through the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or equivalent organization in reciprocal jurisdiction.
  • Driver's license – Possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license is required.
