Position Overview:
As an Oncology Radiation Therapist, you will be responsible for delivering radiation therapy to patients diagnosed with cancer. Your role encompasses patient assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and education, all conducted under the guidance of a radiation therapy supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer radiation therapy treatments as per the physician's directives and the individualized treatment plan. Accurately input data into the system and adjust equipment settings to ensure proper dosage.
- Collaborate with physicians, radiation oncologists, and clinical physicists to prepare the technical aspects of radiation treatment plans, utilizing detailed patient information regarding their condition and anatomy. Construct necessary patient immobilization devices as prescribed.
- Maintain comprehensive patient records and billing documentation in accordance with departmental protocols, ensuring all relevant information such as radiation dosages and equipment settings are accurately recorded.
- Execute both routine and advanced radiation therapy procedures, including total body irradiation and brachytherapy, adhering to established clinical practices and standards.
- Prepare treatment rooms and equipment for patient sessions, utilizing appropriate safety measures to protect patients and staff. Conduct quality assurance checks in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide mentorship and clinical training for student radiation therapists, fostering their professional development.
Educational Background:
- Completion of a Radiation Therapy Technologist program accredited by the Council of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA).
Licensure/Certification:
- Certification in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Board Eligible (must obtain certification within one year of employment).
Experience:
- No prior experience is necessary.
Skills and Competencies:
As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to oncology patients, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the treatment process.
