Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Automotive Service Technician I is responsible for diagnosing and executing both mechanical and aesthetic repairs on vehicles in accordance with CarMax policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service throughout the repair process, adhering to CarMax's Voice of Customer standards.
  • Manage and control inventory of replacement parts and supplies.
  • Utilize tools and equipment effectively to perform repairs.
  • Conduct mechanical and cosmetic repairs, diagnosing all internal and external vehicle systems.
  • Adhere to CarMax standardized work protocols.
  • Inspect vehicles to meet CarMax Quality Standards as necessary.
  • Perform state inspections when required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace following CarMax 5S standards.
  • Review repair orders for accuracy in labor, parts, and documentation for billing purposes.
  • Collect service payments and manage transactions for services rendered.
  • Utilize proprietary and universal software systems, including CarMax Electronic Repair Order and Mitchell.
  • Provide guidance and support to fellow associates.
  • Assist with vehicle assessment, preparation, receiving, and transferring as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Complete New Associate Orientation Training Operations.
  • Complete Kronos Training for Hourly Associates.
  • Maintain a current Refrigerant Recycling License.
  • Where applicable, hold current ASE Certifications in Steering and Suspension (A4) and Brakes (A5).
  • Read, interpret, and accurately document data.
  • Handle multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and associates in person and over the phone.
  • Exhibit strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity in both arms and hands.
  • Ensure compliance with CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA regulations.
  • Show exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Exhibit excellent telephone etiquette and active listening abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a combination of office, shop, and outdoor environments, potentially in noisy or inclement weather.
  • May require prolonged periods of walking or standing.
  • Flexible work hours, including shifts that may encompass nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Wear CarMax attire while on duty.
  • Adhere to all CarMax policies regarding attendance, asset protection, integrity, and professional appearance.
