Job Summary

This position plays a critical role in the trauma registry, responsible for collecting and analyzing data to support quality improvement initiatives and accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects and abstracts data from various sources, including medical records, EMS records, and hospital software programs.
  • Enters data accurately and efficiently, using scaling and scoring tools such as ICD codes, AIS, and ISS.
  • Maintains the Trauma Registry database, ensuring compliance with state regulations and accreditation requirements.
  • Develops and produces timely reports and information, contributing to data submission to national and state agencies.
  • Works independently, collaborating with the trauma team to identify opportunities for improvement and areas of concern.
Requirements
  • Equivalent education to a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or certified coder, including advanced education in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Required coursework, including the ATS trauma registrar course and AIS training course, within one year of hire.
  • Experience in coding, abstracting, and data management, normally acquired over two or more years in a clinical or coding position.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple work projects and tasks.
  • Exceptional data entry and data management skill sets, with a high degree of accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Registered Health Information Technologist or Registered Health Information Administrator certification (RHIT or RHIA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Specialist Trauma Registry (CSTR) preferred.
  • Past trauma registry experience preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
