Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Safety Officer to join our team at Ahtna. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and supervising the implementation and maintenance of a project occupational health and safety program designed to prevent injury, occupational illness, and damage to property.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement project-specific safety manuals, including preparation and distribution of updates.
  • Determine the applicability of administrative and regulatory requirements and other health and safety laws, and implement applicable regulations and standards.
  • Establish and implement safety training objectives, plan and schedule tasks related to health and safety, conduct safety/health-related training, and maintain all records and data related to project employee and subcontractor training, medical examinations, licenses, and certifications.
  • Represent the company in inspections and hearings conducted by client, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct and supervise site inspections, job hazard analyses, and other evaluations to identify hazards and potential risks, make recommendations to managers as required, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Review and approve subcontractor site-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct post-accident investigations and make recommendations for changes in equipment and processes to correct unsafe conditions, assess accident statistics to determine requirements for new or modified training.
  • Assist with risk management and environmental health issues.
  • Prepare, recommend, and administer budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare complex analytical documents and correspondence.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, prime and subcontractors, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Promote a culture that encourages, recognizes, and rewards safe conduct.
  • Conduct presentations on assigned topics as needed.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience as a Site Safety Officer with at least 5 years of experience on construction industry projects, specifically with the Federal Government.
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
  • 30-Hour OSHA training or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of USACE EM 385-1-1 and industrial and occupational safety and health program administration.
  • Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of employee training.
  • Knowledge of report preparation and statistical analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CSP certification.
  • Experience in civil/infrastructure and marine construction.
Work Environment

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both indoors and outdoors, and may be subject to changes in temperature and noise levels. While outdoors, the position may be subject to construction site conditions, confined spaces, changes in temperature, extreme ambient weather conditions, and noise levels. This role also requires operation in a professional office environment.
