Victim Advocate

The Maryland Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled Victim Advocate to join our team. As a Victim Advocate, you will provide administrative support and advocacy services for the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) at the MDTA Police Headquarters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct administrative assistance to IAU staff, exercising judgment, independent initiative, and extensive knowledge of policies, rules, regulations, and workflow of the MDTA Police.
- Serve as an intermediary for the IAU Commander, providing direct information, assistance, and guidance to complainants as a Victim Advocate.
- Provide information and explanation to complainants regarding the administrative investigation process, charging committee, and trial board process.
- Use knowledge of agency policy, rules, and regulations, as well as independent initiative and judgment to screen complaints against agency policy.
- Maintain constant contact with the internal affairs board members to ensure proper case flow and processing.
- Maintain IAU citizen-accessible database and independently assure sensitive information collected from the IAU is accurately compiled and maintained in the IAPro, Blue Team, and Public Portal computer database.
- Monitor telephone calls and other inquiries to the IAU, determining reasons for inquiry, answering the inquiry independently, or making a referral to a proper IAU staff member.
- Process all requests for IAU records and maintain disclosure log within IAPro to monitor each request.
- Assist with audits, annual and statistical reports based on analyzed data from IAPro database.
- Review all disciplinary actions issued, reporting the findings directly to the IAU Commander or Assistant Commander in their absence.
- Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.
- Two years of experience in administrative or professional work, with one year of this experience including performing public relations functions with the public, other department heads, officials, community, personnel, and other outside government entities.
- Experience using IAPro, Blueteam, Public Portal, or a similar database.
- Bilingual - Spanish.
- Experience performing administrative and clerical duties with law enforcement or a law enforcement agency.
