Addiction Counselor

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Addiction Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our Chemical Dependency Division, you will provide high-quality clinical treatment to chemically-addicted patients, promoting their recovery and well-being.
Job Summary:Under the supervision of our experienced clinical team, you will provide individual and group counseling sessions, develop patient treatment plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. Your expertise in substance use disorders and commitment to patient-centered care will make a significant impact on the lives of our patients.
Responsibilities:- Counsel patients admitted to our Chemical Dependency Division, providing empathetic and non-judgmental support.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, setting short-term and long-term goals in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Conduct group and psychoeducational training sessions, promoting patient engagement and empowerment.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, adhering to agency requirements and HIPAA standards.
- Initiate and complete OASAS admission/discharge forms, ensuring seamless transitions for patients.
- Participate in clinical team meetings, sharing insights and expertise to enhance patient care.
- Conduct overdose prevention training and distribute naloxone rescue kits, promoting harm reduction and community safety.
- Valid Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) - Trainee Certification issued by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS); or
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 credits in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or a related field; or
- High School diploma or its equivalent and 2 years of full-time paid satisfactory experience performing case management, care coordination, and related supportive functions in a substance use disorder treatment program.
