The Senior Systems Architect for lending solutions will act as a principal authority, system designer, and expert consultant for the lending division throughout the organization.

This individual is expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of our existing on-premises systems and offer insights regarding product architecture, design, development, and modernization.

The Senior Systems Architect will be engaged in lending strategy, design, engineering, data flows, and integration initiatives, providing technical guidance on innovative solutions that utilize cutting-edge technologies.

This role involves creating and executing solutions for lending systems while extracting functional and non-functional requirements from business and technology experts.

The individual will oversee the architecture and delivery of products and platforms, necessitating close collaboration with Technology Product Owners/Managers, Development Leads, Business Product Owners in consumer lending, vendors, and related platform and product teams.

Collaboration with product teams and stakeholders on roadmaps is essential, as is participation in agile ceremonies, reviewing, and analyzing intricate strategies for product functionality to ensure feature delivery prioritization.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert knowledge in distributed and cloud technologies, including Azure Cloud, MuleSoft Anypoint, REST API, Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, etc., to facilitate the delivery of lending modernization projects.
  • Lead solution design, system architecture, technical requirements, and design specifications, applying modern product development and systems engineering best practices to the implementation of lending solutions.
  • Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating systems environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external controls, and outputs.
  • Establish and enhance the architectural framework, including technical enablers and architectural experiments/proofs of concept aligned with business priorities.
  • Serve as a consultant, providing advice and guidance on assignments related to specialized or unique engineering requirements.
  • Drive the development and execution of effective technology adoption strategies to achieve optimal business outcomes.
  • Conduct fit-gap analysis on current technology options and provide recommendations to support the transition to modern lending platforms that align with business objectives.
  • Offer detailed insights for technology selection, implementation techniques, and tools.
  • Lead the implementation of a flexible change management methodology/framework, including DevSecOps Continuous Integration & Delivery practices.
  • Consult on testing strategies, including unit testing, performance testing, test automation, and system integration testing.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Security Architecture, Platform Engineering, and Product Engineering teams on the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of distributed and cloud systems.
  • Establish and manage relationships with technology vendors regarding lending system architecture and design, focusing on achieving operational efficiency and ensuring service level agreements are met.
  • Contribute to the lending modernization roadmaps and related cross-cutting initiatives.
  • Oversee the application of the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) utilizing Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) practices.
  • Work with business and technology team members to support the development of the product backlog, including participation in backlog grooming/refinement, PI Planning, and Sprint Planning.
  • Assist in production support activities, including deployments, break-fix resolution, and incident management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues, collaborating across teams to deliver solutions and provide technical support and consultation.
  • Perform incident/problem root cause analysis to identify and resolve recurring technical issues.
  • Provide input into financial planning, including budgetary recommendations.
  • Guide leadership and team members on technology best practices.
  • Offer technical direction and leadership to other engineers; serve as a coach and mentor.
  • Monitor and analyze metrics to ensure optimal business and technical outcomes.
  • Review solutions to ensure alignment with business objectives, organizational standards, and industry best practices.
  • Identify potential design, quality, or operational issues and initiate corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities to mitigate risk and enhance functionality, performance, and security.
  • Provide forward-thinking technical expertise in current and emerging technologies, trends, and practices.
  • Ensure the accuracy of information communicated to support leadership decision-making.
  • Collaborate on the development and refinement of standards and best practices.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

Extensive experience in systems engineering at the enterprise level, including the analysis and design of cloud and distributed system architectures, preferably within the financial services or fintech sectors supporting modernization initiatives.

In-depth knowledge of system engineering principles, practices, theories, and methods to identify and solve complex problems and perform sophisticated analyses.

Significant experience with microservice architecture and service-oriented architecture (SOA) within an enterprise business environment.

Proficient in software development practices, including designing, developing, testing, debugging, and implementing mainframe, distributed, and cloud applications and systems.

Extensive experience with object-oriented programming languages, particularly Java.

Significant experience with private, public, and hybrid cloud infrastructure, with a focus on the Azure Cloud technology stack.

Advanced hands-on experience and knowledge in web service design and development, including REST, OpenAPI, RAML, WSDL, SOAP web services, MuleSoft, REST web services, XSD, XPath, XQuery, XSLT.

Knowledge and experience with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g., GIT, Jenkins, Maven, RunDeck, Terraform, Ansible, etc.).

Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify root causes of issues and provide effective solutions.

Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts, tools, and applications.

Exceptional problem-solving, collaboration, critical thinking, team-building, and presentation skills.

Ability to lead independent teams, exercise initiative, and use sound judgment.

Advanced experience with Scaled Agile Framework and/or Agile software development practices.

Expert verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud and cloud-native systems.

10+ years of business domain experience in consumer and business lending origination, servicing, and delivery.

Experience with relational databases, data modeling, and ETL tools.

Familiarity with security standards such as TLS, SSL, and data encryption.

Advanced knowledge of financial/banking industry standards, regulations, and practices.

Advanced knowledge of organizational systems, products, services, programs, policies, and procedures.
