Hospice Nurse Specialist

Magnet Medical is seeking a dedicated Hospice Nurse to provide specialized care to terminally ill patients and their families in Walla Walla, Washington.
Job OverviewThis role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones, providing compassionate end-of-life care that prioritizes comfort, pain management, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:- Patient Assessment and Care Planning:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, identifying areas for improvement and developing personalized care plans that address their goals and preferences.
- Closely monitor patients' conditions, adjusting care plans as needed to ensure optimal comfort and quality of life.
- Implement evidence-based interventions to manage symptoms such as pain, nausea, shortness of breath, and anxiety.
- Symptom and Pain Management:
- Administer medications, including pain management drugs, sedatives, and other comfort measures, as prescribed by physicians to alleviate suffering and promote relaxation.
- Regularly assess the effectiveness of symptom management interventions and adjust treatments accordingly.
- Provide education to patients and their families on the use of pain medications and other treatments to prevent discomfort and distress.
- End-of-Life Care:
- Offer compassionate support to patients and their families throughout the dying process, respecting their personal and cultural wishes.
- Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their loved ones, addressing fears, anxiety, and grief.
- Coordinate spiritual care services, as needed, to meet the patient's and family's needs.
- Ensure the patient's dignity is maintained, assisting with advanced care decisions such as advance directives and do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders.
- Family Support and Education:
- Provide education to families and caregivers about the patient's condition, expected progression, and what to expect during the end-of-life process.
- Teach caregivers how to manage medications, symptom control techniques, and comfort measures.
- Offer emotional support to family members, addressing feelings of grief, fear, and uncertainty.
- Coordination of Care:
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide holistic care tailored to the patient's needs.
- Communicate regularly with physicians to update on patient progress and symptom management.
- Arrange for necessary home care services, such as physical therapy or occupational therapy, to maximize patient comfort and quality of life.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in the patient's medical record, including assessments, care plans, symptom management, and interventions.
- Document patient and family communication, changes in the patient's condition, and response to treatment.
- Emergency Care:
- Provide immediate care in cases of sudden changes in the patient's condition, such as respiratory distress or severe pain.
- Assess emergency situations and make necessary referrals to ensure appropriate intervention.
The estimated salary for this position is around $120,000 per year, based on 8-hour shifts and 40 hours per week, plus a tax-free stipend. This compensation package is subject to confirmation.
