Status: Part-Time, 32 hours or less per week.

The mission of Girls Incorporated of Columbus & Phenix-Russell is to empower all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Our holistic approach to girl development enables girls to overcome gender, economic, and social obstacles, fostering their growth into healthy, educated, and independent individuals. Guided by the voices of girls and their families, we also advocate for policies that enhance opportunities for all girls and address systemic barriers to their success.

Founded as The Girls Club of Columbus, Girls Incorporated has been dedicated to educating and empowering girls in the community since 1952. Through after-school and summer programs, as well as a year-round sports initiative, our organization serves a diverse population of over 1,700 girls, ages 6 to 18, annually. As an affiliate of Girls Inc., we contribute to a network that supports more than 144,000 girls each year across the US and Canada.

Position Summary

The Youth Program Coordinator engages directly with participants in after-school and summer camp initiatives. This role requires an energetic and passionate individual who is committed to helping girls reach their fullest potential. The Coordinator must be adept at delivering experiential, research-informed programs and leading group activities in an effective and imaginative manner.

Key attributes include patience, empathy, consistency, creativity, and a drive for excellence. Candidates should possess direct experience working with girls aged 6-18 and a solid understanding of child development principles. The Coordinator must also exhibit maturity and possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver research-based, age-appropriate programming using established curricula from Girls Inc. as the foundation of instruction.
  • Design and execute mission-driven activities and events.
  • Act as a role model for participants, staff, and volunteers, maintaining professionalism and a commitment to quality in all program delivery.
  • Ensure positive outcomes and comprehension of concepts among participants.
  • Utilize existing lesson plans, occasionally create new ones, and complete daily program reports.
  • Stay informed on issues affecting girls and children.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of Girls Inc.
  • Collaborate effectively with other staff and supervisors.
  • Participate in staff meetings and conferences to share insights and work collaboratively towards agency and program goals.
  • Enforce Center rules and safety protocols.
  • Transport participants to and from designated locations.
  • Support trainers in onboarding new facilitators.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of events.
  • Provide coaching and training as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Employment Conditions

Employment with Girls Inc. is contingent upon successfully passing a criminal background check, including a sex offender check, a pre-employment drug screening, and a review of driving records as required by law. Positions requiring a valid driver's license must maintain continuous insurability under the Girls Inc. insurance policy throughout employment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate's Degree or higher, with training in people management.
  • Age 25 or older.
  • 3-4 years of experience in a youth organization or related field.
  • 12 independently chosen professional development trainings with self-evaluation.
  • Experience working with girls aged 6-18.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with children and engage them in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers, facilitating collaboration among diverse groups.
  • Flexibility and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate or graduate coursework in education, child development, recreation, psychology, sociology, or business administration.
  • Teaching experience or skills.
  • Highly organized, technologically proficient, and creative.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
